Spring?

The other day, I saw a cardinal

from my back porch.

Bright cherry red, perched

in a tree.

He stood out against the muddy red bricks

of the row home behind him.

I thought of spring.

Stinkin' pigeons! That's where a pellet gun would come in handy. We used to have a cardinal that lived in the tree outside our bedroom window. For some reason he was constantly throwing himself into the glass. This was back when I was in school at CUA, and Julie was working for a devout Catholic who kept trying to evangelize her. We dubbed the bird "John Paul" and imagined that if the pope could change into animal form and spy on us, it would most certainly be as a cardinal.

That's a funny story!

It is a probably little known fact that I am actually a good shot with a pellet gun...

Bah! Boo to pigeons! :)

Lovel words -- and visions in my head from them.
