Fine Art Postcards...
I have taken to starting each school day with a “fine art postcard.” The kids actually like this and remind me if I forget to show them (which happens regularly). We’re getting to the end of this set, purchased from Amazon. If anyone out there has any “fine art postcards” laying around and gathering dust, we would certainly welcome them. I usually read whatever little blurb of history I can find either in the description on the back or from the internet. Ana and David enjoy getting mail so if you would like to send us a postcard, email me and I’ll reply with our mailing address…once I’ve performed a background check of course (that’s for my mom).
We also do a poem of the week. So far we have listened to, The Song of the Wandering Aengus (Yeats), Venetian Air (Moore), The Love a Life Can Show (Dickinson) and next week it’s This is the Garden (cummings). I choose the selections randomly from handy document I have compiled called “Poems I Like.” when I happen upon a poem I like in my internet wanderings I copy and paste it into the doc. Thus, my compilation is full of varying fonts and weird shadings…I kind of like it. Anyway, I welcome all suggestions for this as well…
It’s a fun way to travel about and give them a different perspective from the one they usually encounter at the dining room table.
God bless!
