I Never Thought I'd be Counter Cultural....
…but more and more it seems I am. Case in point, this article from the Wall Street Journal which describes several books detailing, “how to get your kid into college.” The one thing it seems my kids have going for them at this point is that we are more “blue” than “white” collar. My Master’s degree may be a hindrance…but their Dad’s lack of a college education may “help” them. That’s not the part that makes me counter-cultural though.
It is the almost scary programming of a child’s life. Do Michael, Ana and David really need to start making life plans at middle school age. Do they really need to forfeit their “down time” so that they can focus on learning a skill which will make them “stand out,” just so they can get into college? How is this generation coming up going to be able to relate to each other if they’ve never learned the subtle art of playground diplomacy…much less compete in “world arena” which is growing ever smaller?
It’s a pity there’s no a degree in common sense….
